Nuggets vs. Lakers recap: L.A. uses 3-point barrage to prevail

Jodie Meeks and Antawn Jamison each used a hot hand from the arc to help L.A. bounce back from its worst performance of the season on Tuesday vs. the Pacers.

Going 17 of 33, the Los Angeles Lakers used their best three-point shooting of the season to defeat the Denver Nuggets 122-103 on Friday night at Staples Center.

After seeing their second unit struggle for much of the season, the Lakers’ bench showed up in a big way, scoring a total of 61 points.

Jodie Meeks was deadly from the arc and had his best game as a member of the Lakers, going 7-for-8 and matching his career-high in three-pointers made. Los Angeles got a balanced effort, with five players scoring in double figures. Antawn Jamison formed the other half of L.A.'s dynamic duo off the bench and led the Lakers with 33 points and 12 rebounds.

Dwight Howard started the game with 16 points and five rebounds and then finished it strong, scoring 28 points and adding 20 rebounds, including a three-pointer late in the fourth quarter that added insult to injury in the Nuggets' loss. Danilo Gallinari led the Nuggets with 19 points on 9 of 13 shooting.

The Lakers also managed to mitigate their ball-security issues, committing 15 turnovers on the evening after averaging 17.2 per game through their first 15 games. They shared the ball particularly well, notching a total of 33 assists and won the rebounding battle convincingly by a margin of 46-38.

The Lakers move to 8-8 on the season and will take on the Orlando Magic on Sunday at Staples Center in an effort to go above .500 for the first time this season. Denver falls to 8-9.
