    Friday’s NBA scores roundup

    US PRESSWIRE

    Lakers 122, Nuggets 103

So apparently Antawn Jamison thriving under Mike D’Antoni while Pau Gasol struggles is going to be a thing. Jamison dropped 33 off the bench, including 19 on 8-10 shooting in the second half. (Pau had six total.) This was the example of what L.A.‘s offense can and should be: quick, decisive and brutal. Denver’s a good defensive team that just got laid out with haymaker after haymaker from the Lakers. Dwight Howard even hit a three-pointer in the fourth quarter! On the plus side for the Nuggets, Jordan Hamilton hung 12 points and seven rebounds in the fourth.

    Cavaliers 113, Hawks 111

I’m not sure how the Cavs are staying without Kyrie Irving, but they are. Alonzo Gee’s putback with four seconds left gave Cleveland a win that snapped Atlanta’s six-game winning streak. Gee finished with 15 points, and Jeremy Pargo led the way with 22 and Anderson Varejao added 20 points and 19 rebounds. (He’s good.) Josh Smith had a lovely game with 25 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals, and the Hawks shot really well from beyond the arc (12-20) despite being without Kyle Korver, but Cleveland just got too many offensive rebounds (half of all opportunities).

After seeing their second unit struggle for much of the season, the Lakers’ bench showed up in a big way, scoring a total of 61 points.

The Lakers also managed to mitigate their ball-security issues, committing 15 turnovers on the evening after averaging 17.2 per game through their first 15 games. They shared the ball particularly well, notching a total of 33 assists and won the rebounding battle convincingly by a margin of 46-38.

    Raptors snap skid, beat Suns

DeRozan led all scorers with 23 points, and he did so shooting 8-for-18 from the field. He grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists. The Raptors bench was the reason the team ended up winning; five players combined for 46 points, and it seemed like they helped lead a run whenever the Suns would make a push in the second half.
