No. 16 Creighton vs. California final score: McDermott’s 34 points lead Bluejays past Bears

California’s undisciplined play in the closing minute of the game killed any chance of overcoming Creighton’s lead.

California could see Creighton ahead of them but could never catch up. Down by five in the last minute of the game, the Bears continued to foul Creighton and the Bluejays made them pay for it, hitting seven of eight free throws to seal the game, 74-64.

Forward Doug McDermott led No. 16 Creighton with 34 points, hitting 4-of-7 three-points and going 10 for 10 from the free-throw line. His final four free-throws that iced the game came on a technical foul and a shooting-foul by Cal's Richard Solomon. Center Gregory Echenique had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in addition to his five blocked shots. Creighton improves its record to 10-1 overall.

Cal took 78 shots in the game and only made 27, with Allen Crabbe's 6-for-27 being the worst of the bunch. Justin Cobbs' 18 points and seven assists lead the Bears. Off the bench, Tyrone Wallace contributed eight points on 3-of-10 shooting and 10 rebounds. Cal managed to out-rebound Creighton 47-36.
