NFL playoff scenarios: Bengals could play three of four AFC division winners in Wildcard round

After defeating the Ravens in Week 17, the Bengals could play the Texans, Patriots or Broncos depending on who wins and who loses the rest of the day.

The Bengals have finished the season with a 10-6 record after defeating the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17. They locked themselves into the AFC's No. 6 seed after their Week 16 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it's currently unclear as to who they'll face in the Wildcard round of the playoffs, as they could face three of the four AFC division winners on the road.

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • The Bengals will travel to Denver to play the Broncos if the Broncos lose to Kansas City and the Patriots defeat the Ravens.
  • The Bengals will travel to Houston to play the Texans if the Patriots defeat the Dolphins (the Texans lost to the Colts earlier Sunday)
  • The Bengals will travel to New England to play the Patriots if any other combination takes place.

Due to the fact that the Patriots are heavily favored to defeat the Dolphins, it’s looking like the Bengals will play the Texans on the road in the first round of the playoffs for the second year in a row. After winning seven of their last eight games, this is a vastly different Bengals team than who was knocked out of the playoffs in the first round of last year’s playoffs in Houston.
