Monday night, Brandon Morrow started against the red-hot (and first-place) Washington Nationals.

It didn’t go real well, as Morrow lasted only nine pitches.

Steve Lombardozzi led off and ripped Morrow's sixth pitch for a double. That brought up another rookie, Bryce Harper, who took three straight pitches: ball, strike, ball.

And with that, Morrow was finished. He gingerly left the mound and retired to the clubhouse, favoring his left side. Nobody can really know much of anything until Morrow’s had an MRI, but the early (and obvious) speculation is that Morrow suffered an oblique injury, which almost always leads to a stint on the Disabled List.

Which would be a problem for the surprising Blue Jays. After entering this season with a 4.37 career ERA, Morrow went into Monday's start with a 7-3 record and a 2.90 ERA in a dozen starts.

If Morrow's out for a spell, the Jays don't have any obvious candidates to replace him on their 25-man roster. However, veteran Jesse Chavez has pitched exceptionally well this spring with triple-A Las Vegas.

Update: According to Blue Jays broadcast team, Morrow suffered a left-oblique strain.
