Daniel Hudson Has ‘100 Percent UCL Tear’

Diamondbacks righthander Daniel Hudson was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier Wednesday with what was then termed a “forearm strain”. Earlier this year, he’d been on the DL with a shoulder injury.

Now, the news is probably worse than the D’backs had feared:

UCL tears generally mean Tommy John surgery. It seems as if we have been writing about TJ surgery once or twice a week this year at Baseball Nation, probably because we actually have been doing that. It almost seems contagious.

The good news for Hudson, who is just 25, is that after about a year’s worth of rehab from TJ surgery, many pitchers come back as good or better than before, so he could still have many successful years ahead.

For the D’backs, it means searching around for another rotation body, just after they had to replace Joe Saunders. Never seems to end.
