Bears’ Brian Urlacher Undergoes Knee Surgery

Brian Urlacher underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday morning.

Brian Urlacher, who has missed the last two weeks of training camp for personal reasons, had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this morning.

Urlacher suffered a sprained MCL and PCL during the Bears' regular season finale on Jan. 1. He had been rehabilitating the knee during the offseason and entered training camp with no issues. After the first week of practice, the knee swelled and Urlacher was shut down. He last practiced on July 31.

Urlacher ran with a brace on Monday, before having the surgery this morning.

The Bears and Urlacher had previously insisted that he was not in jeopardy of missing any part of the regular season. There has been no word on whether his surgery will change that timeline. Some players can return from such a surgery in only a few weeks. Said Urlacher, “I just gotta get back out there for Sept. 9. Even if I just practice the week before, I’ll be in good enough shape to make it through those games. But I gotta be out there when the games count.”
