Football League Cup: Some Real Teams Are Playing

The Premier League, minus the league’s elite, joins the League Cup in the second round.

It’s never too early for English football to find ways to cripple teams with fixture congestion! The second round of the League Cup -- now named the Capital One Cup for sponsorship reasons -- gets underway on Tuesday with a number of Premier League sides in action. The top flight’s elite sides still have this round off, and will join the party in the third round.

This round still features some good sides and decent matchups, even if it doesn't feature the best of the best. Wigan are the Premier League team who face the toughest test, a road match against Nottingham Forest. Aston Villa, Norwich Sunderland, Stoke, Swansea, West Ham and Reading all have the benefit of playing at home on Tuesday. Everton plays at home on Wednesday. Fulham goes away to Sheffield Wednesday, while West Brom go away to Yeovil Town and Southampton goes away to Stevenage.
