Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp suffered a right knee contusion Tuesday after crashing into the center field wall at Coors Field while trying to make a catch in the first inning. After lunging for the ball, Kemp remained down on the field for several minutes as the training staff came out to check on him. He initially stayed in the game before leaving two batters later.
Matt Kemp Injury: Dodgers OF Sent For MRI On Knee, CAT Scan On Jaw
Matt Kemp suffered a knee injury in Tuesday night’s game with the Rockies.
He was taken to a local hospital for evaluations, where he was expected to undergo an MRI on his knee and a CAT scan on his jaw. The good news is that Kemp has not been diagnosed with a concussion, but manager Don Mattingly doesn’t expect the outfielder will be available Wednesday. From MLB.com:
“With that kind of hit, I expect he’ll be out tomorrow for sure,” said Mattingly, whose club plays a 12:10 p.m. PT matinee to close the series.
Kemp was sprawled on the warning track for several minutes but did not lose consciousness, Mattingly said.
“He was talking fine -- ‘Just give me a second,’” Mattingly quoted Kemp as saying. “He was actually funny -- ‘I’m not coming out of this game, I’m not coming out of this game.’”
The knee contusion is not expected to be serious at this time, although the full extent of the damage will not be known until the MRI results come back.
