Chip Kelly’s offense already making history

The Eagles are having success with Chip Kelly at the helm.

There were questions about how Chip Kelly’s offense would translate to the NFL, but the answer is becoming clear six games into his first season.

According to ESPN's Stats and Info, the Eagles are the third team in NFL history to record over 400 yards of total offense in each of their first six games. This offense has helped mitigate the issues on Philadelphia's defense, allowing the team to jump to a 3-3 record on the season and first place in the NFC East.

The yards gained are very impressive, but the Eagles are also succeeding with a variety of weapons. Both Michael Vick and Nick Foles have thrived in Kelly's offense, while running back LeSean McCoy is on pace for 1,370 rushing yards, which would be a career-high.

Kelly’s offense isn’t resting on its laurels, in fact it’s getting better. The Eagles now lead the NFL in rushing, despite losing Michael Vick to injury. They’re averaging 186.6 rushing yards per game, while DeSean Jackson is flourishing in the team’s passing offense. His 525 receiving yards translate to 1,400 on the season, which would be another career-high on offense, and the most yards Jackson has amassed since 2009.

A soft upcoming schedule could push this streak longer. In the next three weeks the Eagles face the Cowboys, Giants and Raiders -- all of whom rank 20th or worst in passing yards allowed. Philadelphia might not be ready for a deep playoff rush in 2013, but watch out when Kelly finds a defense to pair with his high-powered offense.
