Steelers, Ramon Foster agree to 3-year contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers and offensive lineman Ramon Foster agreed to a new deal Monday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed offensive lineman Ramon Foster to a three-year contract Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Financial details of the deal haven't been released.

Moreon the Steelers: Behind the Steel Curtain

The Steelers signed Foster as an undrafted free agent in 2009, and he has worked his way into a starting position at guard over the last four years. He started four games in 2009, eight in ‘10, 14 in ‘11 and all 16 last season. The new deal comes as a bit of a surprise, as the Steelers weren’t expected to re-sign Foster.

The Pittsburgh offensive line wasn't great in 2012, as it ranked 19th in the NFL, allowing 37 sacks. The Steelers' rushing attack ranked 29th in the league, averaging a meager 3.7 yards per carry. Although, those rushing numbers can be partly attributed to the lack of a solid go-to running back. Jonathan Dwyer led the team in yards, gaining just 623 and averaging 47.9 per game.
