The Tennessee Titans offered center Fernando Velasco as second-round tender Monday, according to Terry McCormick of titansinsider.com. The offer is worth $2.03 million, per Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, and if another team signs Velasco, Tennessee will receive a second-round pick as compensation.

The Tennessee Titans have likely ensured center Fernando Velasco will remain with the team in 2013.

Velasco played well in 2012, starting all 16 games and becoming the lone bright spot on a bad offensive line. The Titans allowed 39 sacks, which ranked 21st in the NFL, and their 16 negative plays on runs up the middle tied for fourth-most in the league. If Tennessee wants to get better on the line next season, locking up Velasco was a necessary start.
A five-year veteran, Velasco played his college ball at Georgia and signed with Tennessee as an undrafted free agent in 2008. After starting three games with the Titans over the first four years of his career, he broke out last season. Unless Tennessee offers him an extension beforehand, Velasco will be an unrestricted free agent next season.
