Brent Grimes rumors: Former Falcons CB visits Browns, Dolphins

Free agent cornerback Brent Grimes could be looking for a move to Cleveland or Miami.

Former Atlanta Falcons cornerback and current free agent Brent Grimes visited with the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins over the weekend, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. Grimes particularly enjoyed his time with the Browns, per a report from Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Grimes made his NFL debut with the Falcons in 2007 after being signed as an undrafted free agent. Over the last six years in Atlanta, he has compiled 254 tackles, 56 passes defended and 13 interceptions. In 2012, he played in just one game, as he tore his Achilles’ tendon during Atlanta’s season opener.

The Falcons placed the franchise tag on Grimes before the 2012 season, signing him to a one-year, $10.28 million extension.

The Browns could certainly use a talent upgrade in the secondary. Last season, Cleveland allowed 245.2 yards per game through the air, which ranked 25th in the NFL. The Browns gave up 27 passing touchdowns, 11th-most in the league.

The Dolphins may need Grimes’s services even more than the Browns. Miami ranked 27th in the league in 2012, giving up 248.4 passing yards per game. The team intercepted 10 passes, which tied for fourth-fewest.
