Wide receiver Josh Cribbs, whom the Cleveland Browns released last week, visited with the Arizona Cardinals Monday and was reportedly close to a deal with the team. However, Cribbs's signing is on hold due to a failed physical, according to Will Burge of ESPN Cleveland.

The Browns signed Cribbs as an undrafted free agent in 2005, and since then, he’s contributed to Cleveland’s passing game and been an elite kick returner. Cribbs is a three-time Pro Bowler thanks to his returning prowess, earning trips to the NFL’s all-star game in 2007, ‘09 and ‘12. Over the course of his eight-year career, he’s averaged 11.0 yards per punt return and 25.9 yards per kick return. Cribbs has returned eight kicks and three punts for touchdowns.

Cribbs wanted to remain with the Browns, saying he would take a pay cut to do so. Instead, Cleveland decided to part ways, perhaps because of his limited role in the passing game.

The failed physical is due to offseason meniscus surgery, per USA Today’s Mike Garafolo, and Cribbs’s agent, J.R. Rickert, expects the issue to be resolved before the wide receiver takes his next physical.
