Ravens rumors: Dwight Freeney, Elvis Dumervil draws Baltimore’s interest

The Baltimore Ravens are looking for a pass rusher, and Dwight Freeney and Elvis Dumervil have drawn their attention.

The Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens are interested in signing Dwight Freeney and Elvis Dumervil to fill their need for a pass rusher, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

If the Ravens want to sign Dumervil, it appears that Baltimore will have competition from the Denver Broncos, the team that released him at the 4 p.m. ET deadline before free agency began on March 12. The Broncos and Dumervil had agreed to a restructured contract, but the signed paperwork wasn't faxed in before the deadline, resulting in the defensive end's release. Now, the Broncos have reportedly offered Dumervil a new contract, which may hurt Baltimore's chances. He had a fine year in 2012, finishing the season with 54 tackles, 11 sacks and one tackle for loss.

Freeney has also drawn interest from another team since free agency began, the New England Patriots. The 11-year veteran visited the Pats last Friday, although he hasn't received a contract offer from New England. Freeney has played his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts, amassing 258 tackles, 107.5 sacks and 35 tackles for loss since being selected with the 11th-overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft. He played in 14 games last season, compiling 12 tackles, five sacks and a tackle for loss.

The Ravens need a pass rusher, but they have to get one at the right price. Considering the six-year, $120 million contract given to quarterback Joe Flacco last month, Baltimore doesn't have a ton of cash with which to work.
