The Oregon Ducks pulled the upset over Oklahoma State, running away with it 68-55. Damyean Dotson had 17 points while Arsalan Kazemi dominated the boards en route to a double-double. Rebounding was the game for Oregon -- the Ducks pulled 45 boards to just 29 for the Cowboys.
2013 NCAA Tournament results, Oklahoma State vs. Oregon: Ducks trample Okie St., 68-55
The 12 vs. 5 matchup monster strikes again as Oregon never let Oklahoma State get close.
After finishing in a tie for second in the Pac-12, Oregon defeated UCLA in the final of the Pac-12 tournament. So when the committee determined the Ducks were a 12 seed, most experts considered this to be a slap in the face of both Oregon and the Pac-12 as a whole. But as Marcus Smart and Oklahoma State found out, neither are to be taken lightly. Kazemi -- a senior forward from Iran -- had 11 points to go with 17 rebounds. Carlos Emory had 12 points off the bench.
For the Cowboys, Smart -- AP Big 12 Player and Freshman of the Year -- couldn't get to the basket, scoring just 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Markel Brown, the other backcourt anchor, scored 16, but combined with Smart to turn the ball over eight times.
This upset certainly wasn’t a rare occurrence, considering both tournament history and the under-seeding of Oregon. The 12-5 upset has occurred 38 times -- or 34 percent -- since 1985 when the tournament expanded to 64 teams.
Oregon will play No. 4 Saint Louis on Saturday. The Bilikens took care of New Mexico State 64-44.
