Branden Albert trade rumors: Dolphins have ‘considered’ deal for Chiefs lineman

In an effort to fill a need on the offensive line, the Miami Dolphins have looked at a potential trade for Kansas City Chiefs lineman Branden Albert.

The Miami Dolphins are attempting to fill the void left by former offensive tackle Jake Long, who recently signed a contract with the St. Louis Rams. Among the options the Dolphins are considering is a trade for Kansas City Chiefs lineman Branden Albert, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Long had been a rock on Miami’s line since the team selected him with the first pick of the 2008 NFL Draft. A four-time Pro Bowler, he started every game from 2008-10, but he missed six games over the last two seasons due to injuries. Long, who checks in at 6’7, 319 pounds, left Miami for St. Louis, signing a four-year, $34 million contract.

The Chiefs took Albert with the 15th overall pick in the 2008 draft, and while he doesn’t quite have Long’s pedigree, he has been a valuable contributor in Kansas City. He’s played in 73 games since his debut at the beginning of the 2008 season, starting 71, and at 6’5, 315 pounds, he brings good size to the tackle position.

The Dolphins’ offensive line was decidedly mediocre in 2012, ranking 18th in the NFL by allowing 37 sacks. Miami’s 4.1 yards per carry ranked 20th in the league.
