NFL free agent tracker: Titans sign DL Ropati Pitoitua

The Tennessee Titans upgraded their offensive line with the signing of Ropati Pitoitua.

In an effort to solidify their interior defensive line, the Tennessee Titans have signed lineman Ropati Pitoitua, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. Terms of the contract have not been released.

Pitoitua played defensive end in the Kansas City Chiefs' 3-4 scheme in 2012, recording 51 tackles, two sacks and two tackles for loss. He played in 15 games last season and started 10, and at 6'8, 315 pounds, he adds nice size to clog the middle in the Titans' 4-3 alignment. While he likely won't be a star in Tennessee, he should provide solid depth and add to the overall quality of the line as a role player.

The Titans’ defensive line wasn’t great in 2012, allowing 4.2 yards per carry, which tied with five other teams for 13th in the NFL. Opponents rushed for 127.2 yards per game against Tennessee, the ninth-highest average in the league, and the 16 rushing touchdowns allowed tied for eighth-most. The Titans were better against the pass, tying for ninth in the NFL with 39 sacks.
