Titans rumors: Sen’Derrick Marks ‘unlikely’ to return to Tennessee

Defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks likely won’t be in a Tennessee Titans uniform next season.

The Tennessee Titans and free agent defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks still haven't agreed to terms on a new contract, meaning the four-year veteran is unlikely to return, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.

Marks and the Titans have been working on a new deal for some time, and the team wanted to re-sign him even though he became an unrestricted free agent on March 12. But with no agreement in place and other teams showing interest in Marks, the Titans’ chances at bringing back the defensive tackle for 2013 appear to be slim. Marks’s agent, Hadley Englehard, told Wyatt he and his client are considering multiple options, and that the Titans haven’t provided a viable offer:

“We’re entertaining offers from other teams, long and short term,” Engelhard said. “During our last conversation with Tennessee, they did not have any interest in doing a short-term deal with Sen’Derrick. Right now they say they’re not in a position to offer a short term deal for Sen’Derrick.”

The Titans selected Marks, a college standout at Auburn, in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft, and he’s been a solid contributor on the defensive line ever since. In four seasons with Tennessee, he’s recorded 99 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks. Marks has also deflected eight passes and forced three fumbles.

As Englehard indicates, Marks apparently has several options on the open market. Wyatt reported on March 10, two days before the beginning of free agency, that five teams had already expressed interest.
