49ers lose nose tackle Ian Williams to broken ankle, per report

The 49ers have suffered a big loss to their defensive line during Week 2’s matchup against the Seahawks.

The 49ers will need to fill a hole on defense, following the loss of one their starters on the defensive line during the team's Week 2 matchup against the Seahawks. According to Pro Football Talk, San Francisco nose tackle Ian Williams broke his ankle early into the Sunday Night Football contest. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is also reporting the broken ankle injury to Williams.

He was helped off the field in the first quarter and was immediately ruled out from returning to the game. Former first-round pick and free-agent pick up Glenn Dorsey replaced Williams at nose tackle following the injury. The six-year veteran signed with the 49ers this offseason and was full-time starter with the Chiefs for five seasons.

Williams was an undrafted free-agent acquisition for the 49ers in 2011. He was playing a major role as the 49ers’ starting nose tackle after just playing in four games prior to this season.

The 49ers and Seahawks remain scoreless in the first quarter during a stop in play due to weather on Sunday night.
