Last season, the Chiefs and Jaguars tied for last place in the entire NFL with identical 2-14 records. This Sunday, the two teams will meet in Week 1, with aspirations of turning around their franchises. While they finished with the same record last year, the odds-makers at Odd Shark seem to think that the Chiefs are clearly the better team, favoring them by four points on the road.
NFL odds and lines 2013, Week 1: Chiefs vs. Jaguars
The Chiefs are favored on the road in Jacksonville after finishing with an identical record to the Jaguars.
Both teams have new coaching staff and plenty of new players, so to compare prior meetings would be pointless. The Chiefs spent the first-overall pick on offensive tackle Eric Fisher in this year's draft and added tight end Anthony Fasano along with cornerbacks Steve Smith and Danta Robinson in free agency. However, the team's biggest move was landing quarterback Alex Smith from San Francisco, and he will have to spread the ball to wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and running back Jamaal Charles in order for the Chiefs to be successful in Jacksonville this weekend.
On the flipside, the Jaguars have a first-round offensive tackle of their own in Luke Joeckel and plan to get the ball to Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew throughout the contest. New head coach Gus Bradley is hoping to have an improved defensive unit this year and will have an early-season test against Bowe, Charles and Fasano. If Jacksonville's pass rush can fluster Smith in the pocket, the Jaguars could pull out an upset.
