Fantasy football waiver wire: 5 wide receivers to target for Week 6

Justin Hunter lit it up on Sunday, but who else is worth your attention in fantasy leagues?

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

The world of fantasy football wide receivers hasn't been as consistent as previous years. Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson hasn't been worthy of his top-seven selection while a few other elite wideouts have left fantasy owners frustrated.

The good news is that there are a lot of solid options out there. Carolina Panther receiver Kelvin Benjamin went undrafted in some shallow formats and has emerged as a near must-play option. Plus, savvy fantasy owners may have cashed in on Brian Quick.

Waiver Wire Targets: QB RB WR TE Injury Replacements

Here are five receivers who could be next up for major production:

Justin Hunter, Tennessee Titans (owned in 46 percent of leagues)

It’s been a long time coming, but Hunter finally went off. Hunter caught a 75-yard touchdown to highlight his day of three catches and 99 receiving yards. He led the TEN receivers in snaps and has suddenly become a primary option in the offense.

There were murmurs of Hunter getting in the starting lineup on Saturday, and they held true. The Titans lost Jake Locker to an injury, but backup Charlie Whitehurst was still able to come up with a big-time throw. Hunter is never going to be a weekly double-digit target guy, but the deep ball will make him a boom-or-bust guy.

If you have someone to cut and need a WR, Hunter is worth a look in even a shallow league.

James Jones, Oakland Raiders (owned in 41 percent of leagues)

The Raiders were on a bye and Rod Streater is going to be out until Week 10 or later with his broken foot. The Raiders were on a bye week and their quarterback situation is still unclear with Derek Carr out with a knee injury.

One thing that is clear is that Jones is going to be the man. With Streater out, Jones will get a vast majority of the snaps on the outside and he could emerge as a solid WR3.

Jordan Matthews, Philadelphia Eagles (owned in 30 percent of leagues)

He had a big-time game in Week 3,but cooled off in Week 4 and Week 5. Matthews has caught four of his seven targets in each of the last two games, but only averaged 31.5 yards per game in that span.

The Eagles seem to be getting a lot of production on the outside with Riley Cooper as the red-zone threat and Jeremy Maclin as a target monster. Still, a receiver getting at least seven targets in three consecutive weeks should get your attention.

Matthews is a solid WR4 and could have a big game at home against the New York Giants in Week 6.

Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants (owned in 11 percent of leagues)

He shined in his first game as a pro as he was spectacular in the win over the Atlanta Falcons. Beckham wasn't supposed to do anything in his first game action and the team basically kept him off the field in the first half due to a hamstring injury which bothered him since before OTAs.

In the second half on Sunday, things were a little different and he was able to finish with four catches, 44 receiving yards and one score on his five targets. He lined up on the outside for the most part and didn’t run many deep routes, which may have been due to his lingering hamstring issue.

The Giants have said multiple times that they were not going to play ODB heavy snaps, but perhaps he was just too good. He’s still only going to be the third option, so his upside isn’t going to be too high. He’s more of a WR4.

Allen Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars (owned in 13 percent of leagues)

The Jaguars need some help and they couldn't protect their quarterback. Blake Bortles has really looked lost and he isn't progressing in his brief time in the starting lineup. On the bright side, Robinson was targeted 11 times on Sunday and was able to account for five catches and 51 receiving yards. He has a higher upside than Beckham and Matthews, but the Jaguar factor is scary.
