If anyone besides Kirk Cousins had showed up for Washington in their matchup against the New England Patriots last week, then maybe Jordan Reed would have stood a chance. Instead, the poster boy of our Week 9 tight end rankings saved face with a garbage-time touchdown in the waning seconds of a 27-10 defeat. Hopefully that same fate doesn't await the cover image of Week 10.
Fantasy football rankings, Week 10: Tight ends
The SB Nation fantasy staff rounds up the rankings for Week 10’s top-25 tight ends.
Rob Gronkowski ranks first overall (I know, shocking) but it's a question whether or not he actually finishes there at season's end. Tyler Eifert, despite three fewer red-zone targets than Gronk, now has two more touchdowns on the year. Gary Barnidge (the comments section's favorite player) is the only other tight end with more than 90 fantasy points.
As for this week, it appears to be another matchup in which Reed and Barnidge should both thrive. Only the Oakland Raiders have allowed more fantasy points to opposing tight ends than the New Orleans Saints, and that's something they struggled with even before Delanie Walker came into the Superdome and caught two touchdowns. Reed should score well before the final 30 seconds of the game this time around.
But Barnidge's production still lies in the hands of Josh McCown. With Johnny Manziel under center, Barnidge has seen only 16 percent of total targets in the passing game. He has yet to receive fewer than 22 percent of targets in any game McCown has started.
And for the streamers out there, just know the Detroit Lions have allowed four of their last six tight ends faced to catch six passes. Load up on Richard Rodgers and cross your fingers.
