Peyton Manning opened Sunday’s game by setting the NFL’s record for all-time passing yards. Things have gone drastically downhill since.
Peyton Manning has a 0.0 passer rating at halftime against the Chiefs
Manning set one of the NFL’s most impressive records in what may be one of his worst ever games.
At halftime against the Kansas City Chiefs, Manning has a 0.0 passer rating. He is 4-for-15 passing for 30 yards and three (!) interceptions. The 39-year-old was expected to take a step back this season, especially after struggling in the playoffs. What’s more shocking than his physical decline has been his mental errors, however. Two of his interceptions have simply been bad misses.
Later in the first half, he committed an intentional grounding penalty.
Before Sunday, Manning’s worst ever passer rating in single game was 35.0, recorded in 2001 against the Miami Dolphins. He has already matched his interceptions total from that game.
Manning’s leads the NFL with 16 interceptions this season. His longtime rival, Tom Brady, has thrown just two. Manning’s 16 interceptions through nine games is the most by any Broncos quarterback since Jacky Lee threw 17 into 1964, and Manning still has a half to play.
Manning is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play, a fact he solidified Sunday. The day has also illustrated just how far he has fallen off, however.
