Preakness 2015 odds: American Pharaoh is the favorite, but Dortmund and Firing Line are tough competition
Can Pharaoh become the third horse in the last eight years to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown?
Pharaoh will face a tough challenge from Firing Line and Dortmund, who finished second and third in the Kentucky Derby, respectively. Firing Line, who will race out of gate No. 8, is currently drawing 17/4 odds and will be manned by veteran jockey Gary Stevens. Dortmund has 9/2 odds and will come out of the second gate -- right next to Pharaoh.
Six horses have won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness since 2002, including California Chrome last year. No horse has won the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.
The Preakness, held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, is shorter and smaller race than the Derby. While the Kentucky Derby is 1 1/4 miles, the Preakness is 1 3/16 miles. The Kentucky Derby was an 18-horse race, while the Preakness has a field of eight.
