Well, chances are tight end affected your fantasy matchup this week. It was the classic case of the haves and have nots. If you had Rob Gronkowski, Travis Kelce, Tyler Eifert or Austin Seferian-Jenkins, you probably had a leg up. Of course, Martellus Bennett owners were rewarded with a late TD.
Fantasy football waiver wire: 7 tight ends to target for Week 2
We saw some big lines from tight ends this week in fantasy football. If you missed out, should you look to waivers to help you out?
After just one week, it’s easy to overreact to some guy going off. That said, there is some serious reason to have high hopes for a few of the guys below.
Tyler Eifert, Cincinnati Bengals (86 percent)
This one is easy. You have to add him. Even if you have Gronk and he’s out there, add him for trade value.
Eric Ebron, Detroit Lions (8 percent)
There was a ton of buzz on Ebron all preseason and he came through on Sunday. The second-year, top-10 pick caught four passes for 53 yards and one score.
He should be set for a high upside in a strong offense. Ebron is a strong own in 12-team leagues.
Ladarius Green, San Diego Chargers (20 percent)
The Ladarius truthers got a welcome sight on Sunday with Green in the lineup. He had a concussion and was questionable to play, but he looked terrific en route to five catches, 74 yards and one score on six targets.
Antonio Gates is still suspended for three more games, so that should make Green a must-start player for that time. Plus, the Chargers are really slinging the ball around and their offense looked good in Week 1, too.
The bad news is that they have a tough matchup against the Bengals in Week 2. Again, you should add him if you have any concern at tight end.
Waiver Wire
Jordan Reed, Washington (56 percent)
We all know the drill with Jordan Reed. He's hurt all the time, but he can produce. On top of that, DeSean Jackson is going to miss around a month.
Reed should be a TE-5-10 in the next month and has a higher upside than Green. The problem again is he’s hurt too much.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (59 percent)
Be careful here. ASJ blew up for 110 yards and two scores, but his 41-yard TD was a garbage-time special and he was targeted just seven times. Plus, don't forget that Mike Evans (hamstring) should be back soon. He has upside, but I wouldn't add him unless I hate my tight end.
Richard Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (11 percent)
The Packers are really good and James Jones looks like the real deal, so the upside isn't very high on Rodgers. He caught three balls for 27 yards on Sunday, but the Bears are a little better against tight ends with Antrel Rolle around. If Kam Chancellor is out again, give Rodgers a look for Sunday Night Football against the Seahawks.
Gavin Escobar, Dallas Cowboys (1 percent)
The Cowboys will be using more tight-end sets, especially in the red zone. Dez Bryant -- a red-zone monster -- could be out until Week 8, which means Escobar is going to get some looks. He's a desperate play in two-TE leagues against the Eagles.
