Morning Skate: The Jack Adams Award curse claims another victim

Gerard Gallant is now available for hire!

You love hockey. You love SB Nation. You love reading hockey at SB Nation. Search your feelings. You know these things are true. But life’s too busy to browse the whole network for news. So, we’ll send hockey news to your inbox every morning. All you need to do is subscribe.

Lace ‘em up. Time for the Morning Skate.

DECLINE YOUR JACK ADAMS NOMINATION

Mere months ago, Gerard Gallant was awarded the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s Coach of the Year for leading the Florida Panthers to their best regular season in ages and a division crown.

And now, on this Monday morning in November, Gallant is without a job.

Florida shocked the hockey world yesterday, firing Gallant after a loss to the Hurricanes. Replacing him is Tom Rowe, who coached the Panthers’ AHL affiliate for three years before becoming Florida’s GM and putting together a roster this summer that helped get Gallant fired.

If that all seems like a managerial mess, well ...

One of our Hurricanes writers was on the scene, and their account of the “bizarre black comedy” is pretty compelling. We’ll obviously have more on Gallant and what’s next for Florida soon.
