The status of New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell seemed to be in question after he suffered a grotesque injury to his elbow in the team’s first preseason game last Thursday. Officially diagnosed as a dislocated elbow, Mitchell’s MRI came back negative on Sunday and the team hopes to have him back on the field in a month.
Malcolm Mitchell leading candidate to start for Patriots, possible 2016 fantasy sleeper
Currently recovering from a dislocated elbow, the Patriots rookie wide receiver could become a starter when the team begins its 2016 season. We break down the fantasy implications.

When he is able to come back to practice, some feel that the Patriots rookie could be a leading candidate for a starting receiver position in 2016. According to ESPNBoston.com, Mitchell has a good chance to become New England’s starting “X” receiver for this season.
Fantasy impact: As is the case with Mitchell (fourth round), the production of rookies selected in the later rounds of the NFL draft are difficult to predict for fantasy owners. Mitchell may be able to return after a month, but he will have to begin the season without Tom Brady throwing him passes.
It may be a better option for fantasy owners to wait for Brady to return to the Patriots’ lineup before taking a chance on Mitchell in 2016.
