Detroit Lions wide receiver Anquan Boldin could take advantage of a weak pass defense this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts, according to the Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett. Boldin may be the third receiver on the Lions’ current depth chart, but Birkett mentions that “five catches and a touchdown isn’t out of the realm of possibility in Week 1” for him.

Since Jim Bob Cooter was named the team’s offensive coordinator midway through the 2015 season, Detroit has been excelling as a pass-oriented offense. In the nine games with Cooter calling the plays, the Lions threw the ball an average of 37 times. This means that Boldin should see plenty of balls thrown his way this year.
With all-pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson now retired, someone on the Lions’ roster has to make up for his targets in 2016 and Boldin could end up being the beneficiary.
