Golovkin vs. Jacobs: Start time, TV schedule for pay-per-view fight

Can Danny Jacobs keep on beating the odds to take down Gennady Golovkin?

For live coverage of tonight’s fights, visit our Golovkin-Jacobs live blog.

Gennady Golovkin will take on Danny Jacobs in one of the most anticipated middleweight matchups of the year, and in doing so will put his WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight titles on the line. The two will square off at Madison Square Garden in New York City, presented by HBO Boxing, with the main card available via HBO Pay-Per-View.

The fight will take place on Saturday, March 18, and the main pay-per-view broadcast will get underway at 9 p.m. ET. Jacobs will also be bringing his WBA 160-pound world title to the table, and the fight is being billed as a title unification bout.

Jacobs is notable for overcoming cancer en route to becoming a world champion, and holds a 32-1 overall record in the ring. He has 29 knockouts to his name and hasn’t lost since July 2010, when he fell to Dmitry Pirog via TKO. He hasn’t had to win a decision since August 2009, winning via knockout or retirement in each fight since then, save for his loss.

Golovkin brings a 36-0 record to the fight, with 33 wins via knockout. He’s undefeated, and hasn’t been at the mercy of the judges since June 2008 when he won a unanimous decision over Amar Amari, at the time earning his 13th career win.

Saturday’s card also featured WBC world super flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez taking on Wisaksil Wangek. Gonzalez is considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and it’s absolutely a fight that shouldn’t be missed.

There will also be a 10-round fight between Carlos Cuadras and David Carmona. Cuadras lost his title to Gonzalez his last time out and is looking at getting back on track against Carmona.
