Jeff Teague and the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a three-year deal worth $57 million early Saturday morning, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. News broke earlier that the Teague to the Timberwolves was essentially a done deal, and now the two teams have basically made it official.

On Friday, the Timberwolves traded Ricky Rubio to the Utah Jazz for a first round pick, clearing the cap space that they needed to sign Teague. While Teague isn’t a lethal shooter, his jump shot is more dependable than Rubio, who still can’t crack the low 30s on just a couple attempts per game. Meanwhile, Teague is a career 36-percent shooter from deep, which makes more sense for a Timberwolves team that needs more spacing around Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins and newly added Jimmy Butler.
Teague spent his first seven seasons in Atlanta but has quickly jumped from a season in Indiana last year to Minnesota now. He’s a reliable pick-and-roll guard who averaged 15 points per game on 44 percent shooting last season, and while he might not be the ideal guard for the team the Timberwolves are developing, his three year deal isn’t outrageous and leaves the team with flexibility.
