Mayweather was retired, but he’s back for this superfight thanks to the heavy trash talk and the huge payday ahead. His last fight was a unanimous decision win over Andre Berto in 2015, and prior to that he won another decision over Manny Pacquiao in what was billed as the “Fight of the Century.”
McGregor is 21-3 as a mixed martial artist and won both the UFC featherweight and lightweight championships. The latter was won in his last fight, a TKO win over Eddie Alvarez. The former was won over Jose Aldo in 2015, and between those two title fights he had two matches against Nate Diaz, losing one and winning the other.
Few expect McGregor can beat Mayweather, and it’s not surprising. Mayweather is one of the best to ever participate in boxing and McGregor, while a strong boxer in regards to mixed martial arts, is jumping right into the deep end. The trash talk has been massive, the hype is out of control. But Mayweather will likely get the win.
The pay-per-view card will have three fights before the main event. The first will see undefeated crusierweight Andrew Tabiti taking on journeyman Steve Cunningham. The second bout is the one to watch, featuring Nathan Cleverly and Badou Jack in the light heavyweight division. Finally, the co-feature will see undefeated fighters Gervonta Davis and Francisco Fonseca face each other.
