Eric Dickerson signs 1-day contract to retire a member of the Los Angeles Rams
Dickerson played his last down of football in 1993, and has been in the Hall of Fame for 18 years.

Dickerson played the first four seasons of his career with the Rams, before splitting his 1987 season between the Colts and Rams. He then finished off with four seasons with the Colts, one with the Raiders, and a short stint with the Falcons in 1993. He had his best seasons with the Rams, where he set the rookie record for most yards in a season with 1,808, and most rushing yards in a season overall (2,105) in his second year.
Here’s Dickerson and the Rams making it official:
“It feels amazing to sign this contract and officially be a Los Angeles Ram for life,” Dickerson said Monday. “My passion for this organization during my playing days and for the players wearing Rams jerseys now, is undeniable. This is where my career started and this is where my heart is, so closing this chapter with the Rams back in Los Angeles feels right. I would like to thank Stan Kroenke and the Rams for this opportunity and all of the fans for their outpouring support over the years.”
Along with his retirement, Dickerson got another honor, this one a ceremonial front office role as vice president of business development.
The Rams’ announcement to sign Dickerson to the one-day contract comes after last year’s drama between him and Jeff Fisher, where Dickerson claimed that Fisher did not want him on the sidelines.
“Someone with the Rams told me I’m not wanted on sidelines at games, that what I’ve said makes the players uncomfortable,” Dickerson said.
Fisher had denied the report, saying, “He’s always welcomed, yeah. I’d welcome him in the building,” Fisher said. “I’d love to have him come in. I’d love to have him come to practice. I’d love to have him in come in the meetings. Eddie George has been in my meetings more than Eric Dickerson has. I’d love to have him here.”
Of course, Fisher was fired in December last year, and Dickerson said he was willing to attend Rams games again. “I’ll go to a game, of course I will. I said I wouldn’t go back as long as Jeff Fisher is coach so I’ll go back to a game.”
Now that Fisher is out, and everything appears to be good and well between him and the Rams, Dickerson can retire a Ram. Even if he did go into the Hall of Fame 18 years ago.
