The Green Bay Packers had an easy time with the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football, winning by a final score of 35-14.
4 winners and 4 losers from the Packers’ win over the Bears
It wasn’t a close game, but there were silly turnovers, trash talk, memes, and scenic lightning.

Aaron Rodgers led the way for the Packers, completing 18 of 26 passes for 179 and four touchdowns. The Packers got unexpected help on the ground from Aaron Jones, who had 13 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown, after Ty Montgomery and Jamaal Williams went down with injuries.
Unfortunately, the biggest storyline of the game was the injury to Davante Adams, who was carted off after a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit from Danny Trevathan. He was taken to the hospital, but he had feeling in all of his extremities.
The rest of the game included trash talk, some slick moves, and Tony Romo predictions. Here are the winners and losers from Thursday night’s game.
Loser: Turning it over on your first offensive play
In rivalry games such as this one, it’s important to get out to a fast start. The Packers did that on their first possession with a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a Davante Adams touchdown.
The Bears ... not so much.
On their first play on offense, the Packers defense got to Mike Glennon, who had no chance:
The Packers then scored three plays later, making it 14-0 in the first six minutes of the game.
Turning the ball over on the first play is starting to become a trend for NFL offenses. Brian Hoyer did the same thing on Thursday Night Football just last week. Unfortunately this game didn’t turn out as fun as that one.
Loser: Turning it over again on the next possession
Because once wasn’t enough, the Bears had an even sillier fumble on their next offensive possession:
At least this one took six plays to happen? *shrug emoji*
Loser: When Butterfinger starts talking smack to you
After the “catastro-knee” fumble, as my genius colleague Nate Scott dubbed it, Butterfinger decided to throw some shade on Twitter:
The Bears clapped back, as one might expect:
However, Butterfinger got the last laugh:
Overall, it wasn’t a great night for the Bears. If Butterfinger is talking spicy to you on Twitter, something is wrong.
Winner: Memes!
Cowboys rookie wide receiver Ryan Switzer was a teammate of Mitchell Trubisky in college at North Carolina. Trubisky was selected No. 2 overall by the Bears in the 2017 NFL draft, and many have been calling on him to start over Mike Glennon, including Tony Romo.
That’s what Switzer did on Thursday night, in the form of the “distracted boyfriend” meme:
Yes, that’s John Fox with Mike Glennon, who is looking back at Mitchell Trubisky, all young and ready to take over his offense.
If Switzer made that meme himself, that’s quite impressive. He’s also a good pal for sticking up for his college teammate, even if he didn’t get into the game.
Winner: F***ING SH*T!
The Bears were called for a holding in the second quarter after Tarik Cohen broke off a 15-yard run. As the referee was making his call, a hot mic picked up somebody saying some not so nice things.
It’s safe to assume that reaction was from the holding — and perhaps everything else the Bears were doing.
Winner: Deep passes and big yardage
In the second quarter, Rodgers stepped up in the pocket looking like a superhero, while hurling a pass to Jordy Nelson.
Nelson then proceeded to make Kyle Fuller go flying into his teammate by stopping on a dime, and he nearly got into the end zone after a 58-yard gain:
The Packers’ third-string running back (they had some injury woes at the position) then punched it in from 2 yards out on the next play. It put the Packers up 21-0 with just under five minutes to go in the first half.
Winner: Seeing into the future
We all enjoy watching NFL games, but somehow Romo in the broadcast booth has made them even more enjoyable. He provides predictions, explanations, and has done the impossible: putting us in the mind of Bill Belichick.
Thursday night, the Packers faced a fourth down with less than a yard to go. Romo called the exact play they ran — a bootleg:
Romo also predicted that Randall Cobb would be making his way to the left side for a block. Cobb did that.
At this point, if you’re not making an effort to try to watch Romo-broadcasted games, you should be. (FYI: His next game is Raiders vs. Broncos this Sunday.)
Loser: Your sleep schedule
We had our second game delayed by weather this season. The game was put on hold for 47 minutes, as some scary-looking lightning came over the Green Bay skies.
SB Nation is a sports site, but you don’t have to be a meteorologist to determine this doesn’t look safe:
Fans were forced to leave their seats, leaving an empty Lambeau Field for nearly an hour. When the players finally came back, they had a 10 minute warm-up.
So if you stayed up for the entirety of this game, you might be feeling tired today.
