There are plenty of legendary, iconic venues in the world of sports. Soccer fields nestled in mountains or football stadiums with eye-catching architecture — but nothing compares to beach volleyball at the Paris Olympics.

With Paris not being a coastal city there was a need to create a venue for beach volleyball. Organizers could have moved the event outside the city, or put it in the middle of nowhere, but instead they turned the footprint of the Eiffel Tower into a beach for the most legendary venue imaginable.

It’s one of the most awe-inspiring venues even created, blending the natural beauty of the sand with the brilliance of the tower’s silhouette. No matter how amazing this looks like by day, it’s even better by night when the Eiffel Tower is illuminated, and between matches the olympic rings light up.
