Flavor Flav presents Jordan Chiles with a bronze clock ‘medal’ at MTV VMAs

One of the more controversial moments of the 2024 Summer Olympics came from the world of women’s gymnastics. After initially winning a bronze medal in the Individual Floor Exercise, a protest from the Romanian Gymnastics Federation to the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that an inquiry regarding Chiles’ score made by her coach was late, and thus untimely. That decision was ultimately upheld by the International Olympic Committee, demoting Chiles to fifth place.

Now, thanks to Flavor Flav, she has a new bronze medal replacing the one taken away under these controversial circumstances.

Flavor Flav — who was in Paris in his capacity as the official sponsor of the U.S. Women’s Water Polo Team — was at the MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday night to present the award for “Best Collaboration” with Chiles. Before unveiling the winners (Taylor Swift and Post Malone for “Fortnight” if you were wondering) Flavor Flav wanted to deliver an “Olympic moment” for the crowd.

“I just want to turn this into a little Olympic moment for a second if ya’ll don’t mind,” said Flavor Flav. “Ay yo Jordan, I know they tried to take your medal away from you, but you know what? I got you something that they can’t take away from you.”

He then pulled out a diamond-encrusted bronze stopwatch:

However, he was not done.

“As y’all know I am an official sponsor for the United States Olympic Water Polo Team, so that’s why I wanted to turn this into an Olympic moment,” continued Flavor Flav. “And guess what else? I got your prize money too. I just wanted to surprise you with that.”

“Wow, I don’t even know what to say here,” said the gymnast. “Thank you so much.”

This is certainly not the bronze Chiles wanted to bring back from Paris, but it is also one that no one can take away from her.
