Arizona State edged No. 25 Marquette, 79-77, at home Monday in an intense contest as part of the DirecTV Wooden Legacy.
Marquette vs. Arizona State final score: Sun Devils hold on for quality non-conference win
A block in the final seconds from Jordan Bachynski sealed the game for Arizona State at home.

The Sun Devils led by 10 at the half and kept that lead for most of the evening, even as the Golden Eagles climbed back. Marquette did go ahead briefly, but Arizona State always seemed to have an answer.
Still, it came down to the final seconds. Down one with the shot clock turned off, Marquette had a chance to win the game, but Jake Thomas missed a three with eight seconds left and Jermaine Marshall pulled down the rebound for the Sun Devils. He was promptly fouled and sunk one of two free throws, giving Marquette one more chance, down a bucket.
Derrick Wilson then drove to the right with time running down, only to have Jordan Bachynski block his layup attempt to seal the game. Bachynski had 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks, falling three blocks short of a triple-double.
Jahii Carson led the Sun Devils in scoring with 23 while Marshall added 21.
Davante Gardner had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Marquette. Jake Thomas hit five threes and scored 16 points.
Arizona State is now 6-0 and is off to its best start since the 1980-81 season.
