Christophe Varidel scored 42 points and set the single-game record for three-pointers made at the Maui Invitational, but it was not enough to lift Chaminade over No. 18 Baylor. The Bears advanced to the Maui semifinals with a hard-fought 93-77 win.
Baylor vs. Chaminade final score: Bears overcome Varidel’s record night
Christophe Varidel’s 42 points were not enough for the Silverswords to pull off the upset.

Baylor will face either Gonzaga or Dayton on Tuesday night.
The game started with a flurry of threes -- the two teams combined to make their first 11 attempts from outside. Varidel was responsible for three of those, on his way to 31 first half points. He went on to make 10 threes and score 42 points, one point shy of Adam Morrison’s Maui record of 43.
But Varidel's 42 was not enough to offset four Bears in double figures. Gary Franklin led the way with 22 points. Cory Jefferson and Kenny Chery each added 15. Baylor also out-rebounded Chaminade 45-35.
After Varidel’s first-half outburst, the Silverswords trailed by just three at halftime. But hope for an upset began to fade early in the second half, starting with a pair of threes from Franklin. The Baylor lead eventually ballooned to 21, far too much for D-II Chaminade to overcome.
