Shockers grind out win over BYU

Jamie SquireWSU had a tall task to try and figure out a way to stop the BYU offense. Coming into the game, BYU averaged 93.2 points per game, good for fifth in the nation. The Shockers upped the intensity, diving for every loose ball and contesting every shot, hoping to force the Cougars’ supporting cast to step up.

David Butler II-USA TODAY SportsNapier, the Huskies leading scorer, was held to four points in the game. He more than made up for the scoring dearth with the rest of his game, finishing with seven rebounds, seven assists, three steals and three blocks.
Forward DeAndre Daniels led the Huskies with 21 points and eight rebounds to keep Connecticut undefeated. It was enough to keep the Greyhounds at bay as Loyola kept on coming back. Connecticut led by as much as 15, but Loyola closed the gap to three points early in the second half.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY SportsThe freshman Ennis led the charge with 28 points, a game high. Cooney added 23 points as the Orange used a balanced inside-and-out attack to take down the Bears. Syracuse shot 53.4 percent from the floor and was 7-of-14 from the beyond arc. Ennis and Cooney combined for 26 of the Orange’s final 30 points in the game.
The Orange will play the winner between Baylor and Dayton in the Maui Invitation Championship game. Syracuse has won the Maui Invitational twice, in 1990 and 1998.
