Connecticut vs. Loyola (MD) final score: Huskies defense clamps down in win, 76-66

The Huskies get the holidays off before hosting the Florida Gators next week.

The Connecticut Huskies overcame a slow shooting night from Shabazz Napier to take down the Loyola Greyhounds on Tuesday, 76-66.

Napier, the Huskies leading scorer, was held to four points in the game. He more than made up for the scoring dearth with the rest of his game, finishing with seven rebounds, seven assists, three steals and three blocks.

Forward DeAndre Daniels led the Huskies with 21 points and eight rebounds to keep Connecticut undefeated. It was enough to keep the Greyhounds at bay as Loyola kept on coming back. Connecticut led by as much as 15, but Loyola closed the gap to three points early in the second half.

The Huskies were able to slow down senior Greyhound guard Dylon Cormier just enough. Cormier came into the game averaging 30 points, and he finished the game with a team-high 23 points. Cormier, and the rest of the Greyhounds, had to fight for each of those buckets as the team shot 35.7 percent from the floor, struggling to find space to shoot in the paint. The Huskies, one of the nation's better blocking teams, finished with 11 blocks.

The Huskies now have a week off until they host the Florida Gators on Dec. 2.
