Baylor vs. Dayton final score: Bears squeak by Flyers in final minute, 67-66

The Baylor Bears are off to their first Maui Invitational championship game in school history.

The Baylor Bears only held the lead for around two minutes against the Dayton Flyers, but they were able to take it when it counted as they advance to the Maui Invitational championship game with a 67-66 win on Tuesday.

The Baylor Bears opened the game with a 1-0 lead, which they held for less than two minutes. After that, they spent the entirety of the game chipping away against the Flyers, who led by as many as 10 in the second half. Bears guard Kenny Chery missed a jumper, but the rebound went straight to Cory Jefferson who laid it in with 16.4 seconds left to give Baylor the game-winning points.

One day after using three-pointers in the second half to upset the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Dayton made the Bears pay for every open three-point shot. The Flyers were 11-for-20 from beyond the arc, and got some of those shots from unexpected players. Forward Devin Oliver, who entered the season 1-for-9 from the three-point line, hit all four of his attempts.

Baylor center Isaiah Austin finished the game with 10 points and scored six of them in a crucial run to close out the game. The Bears used their height to dominate the Flyers on the offensive boards, garnering 12 offensive rebounds in the game.

The Bears will take on the Syracuse Orange in the championship game of the Maui Invitational on Wednesday. It will be the first championship game appearance for Baylor in the tournament's history.
