Oregon vs. Illinois final score: Ducks survive test from Illini to stay unbeaten

It was a wild game, but Oregon outlasted Illinois, 71-64, in Portland.

In a wild game filled with momentum swings on both sides, the No. 15 Oregon Ducks slipped past Illinois, 71-64, on Saturday in Portland, Ore.

With the win, Oregon stayed unbeaten, improving to 9-0. The Illini fell to 9-2 and missed a huge opportunity for a statement win.

Johnathan Loyd hit what could have been the game's biggest shot with just under 30 seconds to go. With the shot-clock running down, his mid-range jumper from the right side put Oregon up by five, forcing the Illini to hurry. Illinois ended up hitting a pair of free throws on the next possession, but it could not close the gap any further.

The dagger came when Loyd picked up a steal near midcourt and turned it into an easy layup to extend the lead to seven with under 10 seconds left. He ended up with 11 points, while Mike Moser and Joseph Young each had 14 to lead the Ducks.

Tracy Abrams and Rayvonte Rice both had 16 points to pace the Illini.
