The Syracuse Orange cruised through the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday as they dismantled the Montana Grizzlies, 81-34. Syracuse will face the California Golden Bears in the next round of tournament play.
March Madness 2013 bracket, Syracuse vs. Montana: Syracuse dominates in 81-34 victory
The Syracuse Orange put on a clinic against the Montana Grizzlies and will advance to face the California Golden Bears.
Syracuse was led by Brandon Triche's 20 points on 83 percent shooting. Triche was lights-out from the field, making five of his six shots from the field and both of his three-point field goal attempts as the Orange dominated the Grizzlies. Michael Carter-Williams played to his strengths, keeping his field goal attempts down but making plays as he racked up nine assists.
As a team, Syracuse shot 52.9 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from long distance. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, only put up a 20.4 shooting percentage from the field while going 4-for-31 from three-point range.
The Orange outplayed the Grizzlies and had more rebounds, assists, blocks and steals -- of course, leading to a big edge in the most important statistic: points scored.
Syracuse steamrolled their opponent and will face Cal, who upset the UNLV Runnin' Rebels Thursday to advance to the next round, on Saturday.
