Florida football recruiting: Dawson, Harris, others visiting

Florida welcomes South Carolina to town and a huge group of recruits as well.

The Florida Gators welcome two uncommitted official visitors this weekend in David Dawson and Marcell Harris.

Dawson recently decommitted from the Michigan Wolverines and is looking at several SEC schools including the Gators. Out of Cass Tech in Detroit, Dawson is one of the top offensive guard recruits nationally. He is 6'4, 285 pounds, has plenty of room to add more, and moves very well for his size.

Harris is no stranger to the Florida Gators, as his father played for Florida in the early-1990s. Harris is one of the top safety recruits in the country and is considered by most to be a heavy lean to Florida, though Florida State and a few other schools are technically in the mix. Harris looks like a linebacker, and may not be the most fluid safety in the country, but the Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips star hits well and shows good instincts in pass coverage. After initially thinking he would need to move to linebacker, I now am convinced Harris can stay at safety – provided he is in the right system.

Another star defender, Trey Johnson, will also take in the game. The Auburn linebacker commitment out of Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he would stay committed to Auburn “as long as there’s not a catastrophe.” Considering the fact that Auburn is an underdog of a touchdown at Vanderbilt this weekend, Johnson’s recruitment might become open very soon.

Florida will also receive a visit from Demarcus Robinson, a Clemson commitment out of Fort Valley (Ga.) Peach Valley High School. Robinson is a dynamic receiver with the physical potential to make an impact as a true freshman in the SEC. Robinson made news recently because he wanted to make the visit to Florida despite the trip being against the wishes of Clemson’s coaches.

And last, but certainly not least, is Laremy Tunsil. The massive offensive tackle recruit out of Lake City (Fla.) Columbia High School maintains that Georgia and Alabama are his leaders. But he has been visiting Gainesville quite regularly. He’ll be there as well to take in what should be an awesome atmosphere in the swamp:

The Gators currently sit at 19 commitments and have a shot to land the top recruiting class in the country. This, on the heels of a top-five class in 2012, is laying a great foundation for success in Gainesville.
