Alex Collins visits Miami, still waiting to hear about NCAA sanctions

Former Miami commit Alex Collins enjoyed his official visit with the Hurricanes this weekend, but hasn’t recommitted to the school, especially with the specter of NCAA sanctions.

Running back Alex Collins is still considering the Miami Hurricanes after decommitting, leaving a visit to the school this past weekend with positive feelings.

Collins enjoyed his official visit, per 247 ($):

“I had a good time on my trip,” Collins said. “It was good to hang out with Ray Lewis again because we were roommates in California at the Semper Fi All-American Game. It was good to talk to Duke and some other players too.”

Duke is sophomore running back Duke Johnson, who led Miami with 947 yards this season. Ray Lewis III - obviously the son of retiring Ravens' linebacker Ray Lewis - is also a running back in Miami's upcoming recruiting class, but Collins had been considered the best player at that position in Miami's class before decommitting, as State of the U wrote in a breakdown of the team's running back situation.

However, he still was uncertain about the prospect of continuing sanctions, saying it didn’t come up when he visited the school.

"They didn't mention it and I'm still waiting on the sanctions to come out," Collins said.

Collins, a four-star running back from South Florida, had been considered likely to decommit from Miami, and sure enough, he did in early November. He’s taken visits to Wisconsin, Florida, and Florida State, and has an upcoming trip to Arkansas on the agenda.

Collins, a consensus four-star recruit, is considered one of the top 15 recruits at running back in the country by all services.
