Jeremy Kerr decommits from Miami, commits to Florida State

FSU adds an excellent blocker.

Jeremy Kerr, a jumbo tight end recruit from St. Petersburg (Fla.) High School, decommitted from the Miami Hurricanes and committed to the Florida State Seminoles Wednesday morning.

Kerr had originally committed to the Hurricanes on June 11. He is the second tight end recruit to decommit from Miami, joining Travis Johnson of Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit.

Kerr is a consensus three-star recruit.

He stands 6’6 and checks in at north of 260 pounds, which has many believing he will switch to offensive tackle after a year or two in a college weight program. Regardless of position, Kerr is being brought on for one thing: blocking.

As his highlight tape from junior year shows, Kerr is an excellent blocker. Since the tape (of his junior year), Kerr has added 20 pounds.

Kerr’s senior highlights are not able for embed, but can be seen here.

He is not much of a pass catching threat, and will probably only be used in the passing game if left uncovered.

Many offensive tackles start off as tight ends, including Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco’s Joe Staley, and Central Michigan’s Eric Fisher, who is rocketing up draft boards.

Kerr’s frame suggests he has a shot to eventually play at more than 300 pounds.

Kerr is the second player to decommit from Miami and flip to Florida State, joining Levonte “Kermit” Whitfield, and the fifth to decommit from Miami in the 2013 class.

Florida State now has 18 commitments, including nine four-star players.
