Defensive end Alquadin Muhammad, out of Ramsey, NJ, has signed a letter of intent to play football at Miami. He was recruited heavily by in-state Rutgers, but eventually decided to head south for warmer weather. Muhammad had his choice of any major program in the country as one of the top defensive ends in the class of 2013.

The Hurricanes were able to land Muhammad over offers from Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, and others. He has a composite ranking as the fifth-best strong-side defensive end in the country, via 247 Sports. He stretched out his recruiting process a bit, waiting until one month before committing to Miami.
Muhammad has a great burst off the edge, and above-average speed for his size. He has the ability to blow by offensive lineman, but is also an intelligent player. Is excellent against the run because of his ability to read an offense and close quickly. Pass rushing will come naturally to him because of his quickness. When he gets by a tackle, his tremendous pursuit allows him to get hits on the quarterback frequently.
He may start his career as a third-down specialist or possibly get some time at outside linebacker. Muhammad is still lacking the size to be an every-down defensive end against bigger, stronger linemen. Still, he is a talented player and should be able to find his way into the lineup and make an impact for the Hurricanes early.
