Texas A&M commit Nick Harvey visits Texas for spring game

A visit to Austin for Texas Relays ended with a viewing of the Texas Orange-White scrimmage.

Holding the Texas Longhorns spring game on the same day that the Texas Relays ended just next door provided a major recruiting advantage for the 'Horns that resulted in four commitments on Friday and Saturday combined, as well as a visit from Richmond (Texas) Bush defensive back Nick Harvey.

The Longhorns have continued to recruit Harvey, who has been committed to the Texas A&M Aggies since late November. A Junior Day visit didn’t happen, but the versatile prospect who has the talent to play wide receiver, cornerback or safety at the next level did hang around after the Texas Relays to see watch the Orange-White game:

There was also further confirmation from ESPN that Harvey was at the game after the Aggie pledge told A&M site TexAgs that he was back in Houston, which he clearly was not.

It’s virtually impossible to say whether the visit has much meaning or not -- the fact that he was already in Austin for the Texas Relays means that he didn’t take the trip for the express purpose of checking out the Texas football program, but he did feel the need to, uh, mislead TexAgs about where he was.

And Harvey’s presence there probably indicated some level of communication with Texas to set it all up.

There’s no particular reason at this time to believe that Harvey will sign with another school other than A&M, but it’s one of those signs that for an elite prospect like Harvey, their recruitment isn’t truly over until pen hits paper and that fax goes through, at least not in the opinion of opposing schools who don’t care to give up just because of a prospect’s commitment.
