US Army All-American Nick Harvey reaffirms Texas A&M commitment after Texas visit

The surprise, secretive visit to Austin was the third of its kind for the four-star defensive back.

Days after Richmond (Texas) Bush cornerback and Texas A&M commit Nick Harvey said that he was done with the recruiting process, reports emerged on Friday that he was taking an official visit to Texas to speak with the new Longhorns coaching staff.

The 5’9, 175-pounder had previously made at least three other secret visits to Texas or to Texas game, including a trip for the spring game in 2013 that was outed when Harvey walked past the media room following the scrimmage and was spotted.

The visit of course sparked speculation that the Aggies were in danger of losing the longtime commit to their recruiting rival.

However, Harvey attempted to put any continued concerns to rest on Monday when he spoke with Courtney Rowland of Rivals and once again reaffirmed his commitment to the Aggies:

Put those concerns to rest to the extent possible for a prospect who has taken all those secret visits in the space of less than a year.

More telling may have been his comment to new Texas A&M pledge Otaro Alaka, a four-star linebacker from Houston (Texas) Cypress Falls who flipped his pledge from the Longhorns to the Aggies on Sunday evening:

The public pronouncements from recruits with National Signing Day approaching are often of little value, but perhaps the unsolicited tweet to a potential future teammate is more telling in regards to Harvey keeping his commitment to the Aggies than his comments about being 100% committed.

Harvey is the No. 7 cornerback nationally and the No. 8 player in the state of Texas in the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 57 player in the country. The former Lancaster star originally committed to Texas A&M in November of 2012 over offers from Arkansas, Baylor, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Virginia.

Among the 20 commits and early enrollees in the class for Texas A&M, Harvey is ranked fourth-highest, making him an integral part of a group that sits at No. 3 in the SEC and No. 5 nationally in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.
