Gerald Willis, one of the top defensive line prospects in the country, has ended his recruitment by committing to the Florida Gators.
Gerald Willis commits to Florida: Gators land 5-star defensive lineman
The Gators add a five-star prospect to their 2014 class.
Willis, listed at 6’3 and 275 pounds, attends Edna Karr (La.) High School and hails from New Orleans. He is rated as a five-star recruit by the 247Sports Composite, and the 21st-best prospect in the class of 2014. He is also considered the second-best defensive tackle in the country and the fifth-best player in the state of Louisiana.
Willis listed 12 different scholarship offers, and it’s hard to find a better group of 12 than his -- LSU, Florida, Texas A&M, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska, TCU, Texas and USC.
Willis is the third five-star in Florida’s 2014 class and its highest-rated defender.
The prospect has put on weight since the start of his senior year, which should help his transition to playing on the defensive line in college. Back in May, when Willis weighed 25 pounds less, this is what SB Nation recruiting analyst Bud Elliott had to say:
Willis is a consensus five-star defensive linemen. He’s a bit of a tweener at 6’2.5 and 260 pounds, but is a very good football player nonetheless. Willis is one of the 15 best defensive linemen nationally.
